Somatic Trauma Therapy in Birmingham, Alabama

Specialized therapy for individuals navigating trauma, anxiety, burnout, and nervous system dysregulation.

You’re the one others depend on.
Capable. Responsible. The one who makes things happen.

From the outside, your life may look steady and even successful.
But internally, it can feel like a different story.

You might feel overwhelmed, stuck in patterns you’ve tried to change,
or alone in ways that are hard to explain.

You’ve likely done meaningful work on yourself already.
What you’re sensing now is that insight alone isn’t enough
.

You’re Holding It All Together But It’s Costing You

You may be someone who:

  • others rely on, no matter what

  • has learned to stay strong, even when it’s hard

  • feels responsible for keeping things running smoothly

  • struggles to fully relax or feel at ease

And underneath that strength, you might notice:

  • relationship patterns that keep repeating

  • anxiety, tension, or a constant sense of pressure

  • feeling unseen, even in close relationships

  • disconnection from your body, your needs, or yourself

You may have done therapy before.
You understand your patterns.

But something still isn’t shifting.

It’s Not That You Haven’t Tried Hard Enough

Insight is important, but it’s often not enough.

When experiences from earlier in life aren’t fully processed,
they don’t just live in your thoughts…
they live in your nervous system, & they shape your perception of the world.

That’s why you can:

  • know something logically, but still feel stuck

  • repeat patterns you’ve worked to change

  • feel triggered by things that “shouldn’t” affect you

Your system isn’t broken.
It’s responding exactly as it was shaped to.

A Different Approach to Healing

Somatic therapy works with your body and nervous system - not just your thoughts.

Through approaches like Somatic Experiencing and Lifespan Integration, we gently help your system:

  • process and release stored trauma

  • build capacity for regulation and resilience

  • shift patterns at their root

  • restore a sense of safety and connection

This is not about reliving the past.
It’s about helping your system finally complete what it couldn’t before.

This Work Is Especially Supportive If You…

  • function at a high level, but feel overwhelmed internally

  • have experienced childhood or relational trauma

  • find yourself in repeated relationship dynamics

  • live with chronic stress or health challenges

  • feel unseen, even when you’re doing everything “right”

  • are ready for something deeper than traditional talk therapy

What Becomes Possible

Imagine:

  • feeling more calm and regulated in your body

  • responding differently in relationships

  • no longer carrying everything on your own

  • having space for your needs, not just others’

  • feeling more connected to yourself and your life

This is the shift from survival - to a more grounded, sustainable way of being.

I’m Kristan, a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, & Lifespan Integration Therapist.

My work is grounded in the understanding that healing happens not just through insight, but through the body, the nervous system, and the pace at which your system is able to soften and integrate.

Sessions are intentionally productive, calm, spacious, and deeply attuned.
There is no pressure to perform, figure it out, or push through.

Instead, we slow down just enough to begin noticing what’s underneath the surface, and to support your system in processing what has remained held over time.

This work is often a good fit for those who are thoughtful, perceptive, and used to moving through the world with a high level of responsibility yet are ready for a way of being that feels more supported, more connected, and more sustainable.

Over time, many clients experience:

  • a greater sense of internal steadiness

  • more ease in how they relate to themselves and others

  • increased capacity to rest, feel, and respond with intention

  • a quieter, more settled nervous system

This is a different kind of therapy. It’s therapy that allows change to unfold in a way that feels natural, embodied, and lasting.

Ways We Can Work Together

  • For high-functioning adults who feel stuck in patterns like anxiety, overthinking, burnout, or difficulty slowing down.

This is not just talk therapy. We work with both your experiences and your nervous system so patterns begin to shift in a way that actually lasts.

  • For individuals who are constantly “on” and want to feel calm without losing their ability to perform.

Using somatic tools and targeted support, we help your system settle so you can think more clearly, rest more easily, and move through your life without the same level of internal pressure.

  • A specialized, body-based approach to trauma therapy that helps your nervous system release stored stress.

Rather than analyzing everything, we work with your body’s responses so anxiety, tension, and reactivity begin to decrease at the root level.
